Portrait unveiled for president emeritus

Former IU President Adam Herbert will now have his portrait hanging among past IU presidents such as Herman B Wells in the Indiana Memorial Union. The 17th IU president’s portrait was unveiled in a ceremony held Thursday in the Indiana Memorial Union’s East Lobby.

I.U. Honors Sirleaf

IU has been applauded for honoring Africa’s first elected female head of state, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, at the recent commencement ceremonies. She received IU’s honorary Doctor of Laws degree for promoting peace, justice and democracy.

I’m never expecting anything pleasant when I stop to read political flyers around campus – great truths are rarely stapled. But recently I saw something that raised (or perhaps lowered) the bar for my indignation – a poster comparing the Monroe County Jails to the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.

Commencement ceremonies to take place Saturday

Police dispatched to Assembly Hall to calm an angry Eli Holman

IU Police Department officers were dispatched to Assembly Hall on Thursday afternoon after freshman basketball player Eli Holman threw a potted plant and created a disturbance in the men’s basketball office, IUPD Capt. Jerry Minger said, reading from a police report.
