Rebuilding program on schedule for No. 16 IU

Five years ago, IU restarted a field hockey program to compete in the Big Ten. Those first two years, IU coach Amy Robertson posted a combined two wins. Undeterred, Robertson began building the program that would soon be as successful as the Wake Forest program she left.

Have you ever seen something and wondered what it meant but forgot to Google it, and then keep seeing it but keep forgetting to look it up? Well, that was me a couple of years ago. I would always see these T-shirts, buttons, stickers and posters with this shadowy image of a hairy guy wearing a beret with a star on it. At first I really wanted one of the shirts. I saw one at Hot Topic, but the price tag was crazy high. So I waited, and I'm glad I did.

Questions remain in Butler shooting

INDIANAPOLIS -- There are unanswered questions at Butler University after two people, including a police officer, were fatally shot Friday in Indianapolis. Police say Officer James Davis responded to a call of a suspicious person inside the Hinkle Fieldhouse, where Khadir Al-Khattab, 26, had been watching the women's basketball team practice.

After a fifth place finish at last weekend's Central Regional Preview at Notre Dame, the IU men's golf team is on the road once again this week. Today the Hoosiers will tee off in the 11th annual Adams Cup in Newport, R.I. The two-day tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday instead of the weekend tournaments the Hoosiers have played this fall -- giving the Hoosiers added scheduling pressures.

Losing streak extends courtesy of Illinois

The IU women's volleyball team traveled to the University of Illinois this weekend, losing to the Illini in three straight sets (30-22, 30-21, 30-27). Saturday's loss dropped the Hoosiers to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten play.

Big Ten play opens with tough losses

In a Big Ten doubleheader this weekend at the Mellencamp Pavilion, the IU field hockey team dropped its first game against No. 7 ranked Michigan, 4-1. Three years removed from a national championship, Michigan dominated most of the game with its aggressive play by scoring the first three goals before IU had a chance to put one up on the board.

Peterson nets hat trick as IU wins

Sophomore Jacob Peterson put on a show for his home state as the IU men's soccer team moved to 6-2 while opening up its Big Ten season in East Lansing, Mich., by defeating Michigan State 3-1 at Old College Field. The Portage, Mich., native scored all three goals as he joined a group of three former IU players and one current IU player, junior midfielder Mike Ambersley, to score a hat trick in a game.

Hoosiers control first half only to be blanked in second

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for the Hoosier football team Saturday. If Charles Dickens himself could have written the script for a football game, it would probably look like IU's 30-20 loss against Michigan State as the Hoosiers played drastically different between the two halves.
