More schools slip into bottom of state rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – More Indiana schools have slipped into academic watch and probation status, and the state is sending assistance teams to help 31 schools stuck for years in the lowest rung of the state’s five-tier ranking system.

Indiana reports 13 new swine flu cases

State Radio plays for addiction awareness

The gods of rock ‘n’ roll smiled down on Dunn Meadow on Friday, as lightning did not strike and rain remained a drizzle, allowing State Radio to perform a free show for IU and those who traveled from faraway places like Madison, Wis., Northern Illinois University and Louisville, Ky.

Terry Clapacs, IU vice president and chief administrative officer, laughs after a question about his time as the IU athletics director during an interview Thursday afternoon in his Bryan Hall office. Clapacs will retire on May 28, 2009 after 39 years with the university.

Center collects used books to fill prisoners’ requests

New Field Laboratory brings outdoors indoors

Students and faculty members can now bring research in the environmental sciences directly from the outdoors to the indoors with IU’s new Field Laboratory, located a mile from campus at the Griffy Preserve.

First-year graduate students Michael Potter and Farkhat Yussupjanov test an Elvis robot Friday afternoon at the Robotics Club Open House in Eigenmann Hall. The robot had 16 degrees of freedom, and allowed people to play with the expression of the robot by pushing various buttons.

Talking robots assist graduate research

People packed into the open house on the eighth floor of Eigenmann Hall to see the Robotic Open House Friday. The robots were research projects on cognitive science created by graduate students.
