Israeli aircraft fires missiles into Gaza Strip

An Israeli helicopter launched missiles at a Hamas command center in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing at least four people, after Hamas fired rocket barrages into Israel in an apparent attempt to draw Israel into increasingly violent Palestinian infighting.

Joey Shaw to transfer

Freshman guard Joey Shaw will leave the basketball team and transfer to the College of Southern Idaho next season, according to a report from the Times-News in Twin Falls, Idaho. Shaw will join the Junior College team along with two other transfers, Daren Jordan from Oral Roberts and Harvey Perry from Washington.

Va. Tech Mourns at Graduation

The image most people have of Kevin Sterne is harrowing: a photo showing a tourniquet wrapped around his wounded leg as rescue workers rushed him out of Virginia Tech’s Norris Hall. But on Saturday, there was a new image of the 22-year-old former Eagle Scout, jubilant and full of life as he limped across the stage at the university’s Cassell Coliseum using a crutch and displaying a grin to accept his degree in electrical engineering.

New postal rates to take effect Monday, price of stamps to go up

New postal rates will take effect Monday. Bloomington Postmaster Jim Mennel said that one of the changes customers will see is a two-cent increase on stamps for first-class mail. The rate is increasing from 39 cents to 41 cents.

Ex-candidate, father among 4 charged in fatal gang shooting

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. – A former city council candidate whose 7-year-old son was shot to death on the eve of Tuesday’s primary election has been charged along with his father and two other men in the gang shootout that led to the boy’s death. According to a probable cause affidavit, Angel Silvas died in a hail of bullets Monday after his father confronted gang members, shouting, “I got my kid in the car and you’re gonna disrespect me?”

Unless you are absolutely starving for a book to save your sanity and it is the only one you can find, don’t read “Ivanhoe.” I would consider myself to be pretty high on the boredom scale, but I couldn’t even get through chapter three. The two main characters, who shall remain nameless because I can’t remember their consequence to the story, hadn’t even finished their leisurely stroll through the forest by the end of the third chapter.

IU swept in critical series in Illinois
