Students chart their courses, define degrees with abstract academics

Some degrees defy convention. One student majors in comedy writing, while others pursue offbeat topics such as violin making or concert and festival production. A few years ago, a student created a major in beer. He studied entrepreneurial brewing in hopes of eventually opening his own microbrewery. Those zany degrees attract attention, but they’re just as tough as any other on campus.

Libby Lienhoop was one of about 1,500 women to go through sorority recruitment in the 2009-10 academic year. Rush began in December with 19 Party and ended Monday with Bid Day. Alex Martin makes field for 2010 US Open

As Alex Martin stood at the first tee on the Brookside Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio, he shook hands with his playing partner for the day, 2008 U.S. Open runner-up Rocco Mediate. Little did Martin know that 12 hours, 137 shots and three playoff holes later, he would be heading to Pebble Beach, marking the second consecutive year that a member of the IU men’s golf team would be represented at the U.S. Open.

Hilltop summer children's garden makes junior gardeners masters

Greg Speichert, director of the new Summer Junior Master Gardening Program at IU’s Hilltop Gardens, teaches the group from 9 a.m. to noon every Tuesday.
