Trevor Brown inducted into Hall of Fame

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Trevor Brown, dean of the IU School of Journalism, was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame Saturday at a ceremony in the Walden Inn at the DePauw University campus. Tom Davies, president of the Hall of Fame, said Brown and the other four inductees were admitted because they met the hall's requirements as "Hoosier journalists of the highest distinction."

Committee continues J-School dean search

IU-Bloomington Interim Chancellor Ken Gros Louis said he is reopening the School of Journalism dean search after the search committee couldn't agree on any of the three finalists. The search will be continued into the 2004-05 academic year in hopes of finding the school faculty and search committee's consensus on an acceptable candidate to replace retiring dean Trevor Brown, Gros Louis said.

2-week bike trek supports freedom

Just before the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay, IU coach Randy Heisler thought a team victory was in jeopardy. The relay squad responded, however, turning back Indiana State, Central Michigan and Southern Illinois with a regional qualifying mark of 3 minutes, 42.14 seconds, giving the Hoosiers a one point 182-181 victory over Central Michigan.

Let's talk about balloons for a second. At first glance, there's really not that much to them. Sure, they're colorful. Sure, they can fly. Sure, they can make you sound like a chipmunk if you inhale their helium (which, by the way, is absolutely not funny). Does all this equal, in the mind of the artist, a deep and personal means of self-expression? Balloons just sort of exist; they are almost ubiquitous in every sort of gathering that somehow involves a lot of kids in one place.

In its April issue, Details Magazine has a feature titled "Gay or Asian?" which points out physical and fashion similarities between stereotypical Asian and gay men. The author describes the T-shirt a model is wearing in the picture: "V-neck nicely showcases sashimi-smooth chest. What other men visit salons to get, the Asian gene pool provides for free." She also points out his "Ladyboy Fingers" as "soft and long. Perfect for both waxing on and waxing off, plucking the koto or gripping the Kendo Stick."
