Teter club promotes diversity with international dancing lessons

Science group selects 2 from IU for fellowships

Of the elite groups of intelligentsia that exist in the United States, the selective American Association for the Advancement of Science is top tier for scientists to claim fellowship. This year, IU scientists Curt Lively, an evolutionary biologist, and David Williams, an organic chemist, made the cut. Their fellowship nominations bring IU's number of living AAAS fellows up to 42 -- a number higher than any other institution in Indiana. Of these 42, six are biologists and 12 are chemists.

Kelley student takes first at competition

On Oct. 22 sophomore Alix Moll, a member of IU's Global Sales Leadership Club, bested over 30 other students to capture the state title at the Midwest Sales Competition held at Ball State University in Muncie. Senior Cameron Gwinn, juniors Jeff Martin and Lauren Hilgeford, and sophomore Allison Baumann also performed well for IU. This is the first time IU has sent students to the competition.

IU Foundation elects new members

The IU Foundation announced the election of Gregg Summerville and Kathryn Booth to its 48-member board of directors this week. "One of the Foundation's strengths is its board of dedicated, volunteer directors," said IU Foundation President Curt Simic in a press release by the University.

Youth turn-out in record numbers

More young people voted in Tuesday's presidential election than voted in the last election four years ago, but an overall spike in voter turnout among all ages may have skewed the perception that youth turnout was a disappointment compared to past elections.

Overacting, bad writing sink horror flick

This movie is good if you've never seen "Se7en" and you particularly like overacting. Using the shock appeal of showing body parts, murder and all sorts of vileness, this movie just can't pull it off like the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" did.

WASHINGTON -- President Bush won a second term from a divided and anxious nation, his promise of steady, strong wartime leadership trumping John Kerry's fresh-start approach to Iraq and joblessness. After a long, tense night of vote counting, the Democrat called Bush Wednesday to concede Ohio and the presidency, The Associated Press learned. Kerry ended his quest, concluding one of the most expensive and bitterly contested races on record, with a call to the president shortly after 11 a.m. EST, according to two officials familiar with the conversation.

Sodrel claims victory in tight 9th District race

INDIANAPOLIS -- Hundreds of supporters chanted 'Our Man Mitch' inside a packed Hinkle Fieldhouse at Butler University as they welcomed their new governor, Mitch Daniels. Taking the podium Tuesday night, the newly elected Governor accepted his position at the same spot where he started his campaign 16 months ago. "I started my campaign in the parking lot here at Hinkle Fieldhouse," Daniels said, "and there is no better place to finish it tonight."

Volunteers become heart of last-minute campaigns, support In the last few hours of the election campaign, volunteers at the small mustard-yellow Monroe County Republican Party headquarters on Morton Street busily worked to get out the vote. With overcast skies and steady rain at times, 120 people planned to offer their time Tuesday doing whatever was needed to encourage the vote.

First timers, old hands embrace opportunity to influence outcome

Voters on and around campus braved a steady rain and long lines to cast their ballots Tuesday. But poll workers and volunteers said most people remained upbeat and didn't seem to mind the weather or the occasional delays.
