Students' return to IU dampened by weather

Alyson Gross's apartment has no heat, no carpet and virtually no drywall on the ceilings or walls. All that occupies her spacious five-bedroom Varsity Villas apartment is a few large appliances and eight blaring industrial air movers. The sophomore didn't expect to return from the winter break to such a barren set. But who would expect a busted water pipe to ravage her property while she's away for the holidays?

Woman found unconscious

An unconscious woman was found lying on the sidewalk near Lindley Hall Wednesday afternoon. She was bleeding from her head and was pronounced dead after being transported to Bloomington Hospital.

Lack of scoring sets school record

After suffering two tough losses on the road to start Big Ten play, the Hoosiers were looking to salvage the three-game road trip with a win over archrival Purdue. Instead, IU got their worst-scoring night in school history, losing to Purdue 51-31. The loss keeps them winless in conference play.

Gallery serves up main course: food as art

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- It's tough looking at Mondongo's art on an empty stomach. The group of three young artists uses cold cuts, cookies and other unusual items to create literal feasts for the eyes. Wall-sized meatscapes are formed with a palette of cheeses and smoked ham, deer, salmon and other edibles, each chosen for their specific shade of color.

Energetic start marks 1st meet for No. 25 Hoosiers

The No. 25 women's swimming and diving program is off to a busy start this winter. In the first weekend of December the Hoosiers took on Big Ten rival Illinois in Champaign. IU pulled out a victory beating the Fighting Illini 155-145. Though the meet ended in close numbers, the Lady Hoosiers never lost their poise. The cream and crimson only lost the lead once when Illinois took all three top finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke.

United Nations takes over relief plans for tsunami victims in Asia

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- With health officials warning that the death toll from last month's tsunami could jump sharply without a continual supply of aid, world leaders struggled Thursday to figure out the best way to help victims -- and to prevent such a catastrophe from happening again.

Veterans, freshmen team up for perfect blend of talent

The IU women's track and field team won't waste any time in 2005 as the team sprints into the beginning of the indoor season Saturday at home. The main mission this season is improvement. In 2004 the team finished fifth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and seventh at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.

'Kite Runner' gives voice to silent Afghans

"Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini is one of the rare books that stays with the reader long after the final page. Hosseini's first novel puts a human face on the names and places that have been splashed across newspaper front pages since Sept. 11. Hoosiers split games over winter break

Over the past couple weeks the Indiana Hoosiers women's basketball squad has amassed a 2-2 record, improving their overall record to 7-5. The Hoosiers' pushed their winning streak to four right before the new year before dropping two straight games to Big Ten opponents.

No. 13 IU makes winning look easy

'Star-gazing' new terrorist alibi
