IU Police Department officers ordinarily issue more citations and deal with an increased number of dangerously intoxicated students during Welcome Week, but Wednesday night was unlike any IUPD officers had seen in a long time.

UPDATE: Men's soccer wins weekend tourney

The IU men's soccer team opened the season on a successful note with two victories at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament. The Hoosiers defeated No. 8 Creighton University 1-0 Friday night and the University of Alabama at Birmingham 2-1 Sunday.

5 students hospitalized for alcohol intoxication

Five students, including four freshmen, were arrested and sent to Bloomington Hospital for alcohol intoxication this weekend, bringing the total number of alcohol-related hospitalizations to 14 since Wednesday. IU Police Department officials said the number of cases is much higher than in the past, even for Welcome Week.

WASHINGTON - Women can buy the morning-after pill without a prescription, the government declared Thursday, a major step that nevertheless failed to quell the politically charged debate over access to emergency contraception.

Orientation introduces students to IU graduate programs

While orientation is thought of primarily for incoming freshmen to the University, markedly older faces filled the lobby of the Herman B Wells Library Thursday afternoon in an event designed to introduce new graduate students to the services and information they might need for the next steps of their college careers.

Trustees approve new graduate dean

The IU board of trustees approved James C. Wimbush as dean of the University Graduate School at its monthly meeting Friday. Wimbush, who is currently a professor of business administration and chair of the IU Kelley School of Business' Department of Management, takes over Oct. 1. He replaces former dean John Slattery, who stepped down last year.

Yard sale to benefit United Way

The United Way of Monroe County, with help from several IU organizations, will be taking its first steps towards achieving its goal of raising $1.5 million for the year with a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Preseason rankings don't bother the IU men's soccer team. Though they were ranked No. 1 in the nation at the start of three of the last five seasons, the Hoosiers open their season tonight ranked No. 12. Senior midfielder Josh Tudela couldn't care less.

INDIANAPOLIS — Two charities bickering over the trust money of an heiress to the Eli Lilly and Co. pharmaceutical fortune were scolded by a judge over a lawsuit claiming a bank reduced the value of their donations because of delayed stock transactions.
