Osama bin Laden remains free 5 years later

·

Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the past five years have been marked with the United States' failure to capture the man who orchestrated the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon: Osama bin Laden. The CIA attributes the failure to many elements, including lack of access to al-Qaida's inner circle and the United States' own disorganization. Two writers give their opinion.

Herb or Hops?

In the past few months a Colorado-based nonprofit organization, Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation, has incited proposals that have helped pass referenda asking campuses to lower marijuana penalties to carry the same severity as those for alcohol. The schools that have passed referenda include such major universities as the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, Florida State University and the University of Maryland. SAFER's goal is "to educate the public about the simple fact that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol" and hopes to continue the spread of such policies around the nation's universities. Our columnists debate the safety of marijuana compared to alcohol, the legal implications in Indiana and whether such a proposal should be made at IU.

TOUGH TICKET$

·

IU sophomore Matt Barr has some big requests for IU basketball. Very simply, he'd like new facilities, top recruits, a successful, respected coach and a winning team. Anything else? Well, he'd like cheaper, closer seats. Maybe a student section, too. Is that too much to ask?
