IU alumnus dies from burns after two-week struggle for life

IU alumnus Bill Kapoun, who suffered burns on 64 percent of his body in a Feb. 24 apartment fire, died March 8. To spread Bill’s philosophy of living life to the fullest, the Kapoun family plans to set up a scholarship in his honor, which will benefit those who also like to travel.

Carolina Castells, a Jacobs School of Music graduate student who is finishing her master’s with a concentration in voice specialization, competed in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition (1,500 participants) last month, weaving awe-inspiring compositions with her astounding vocals, to propel herself to the finals.

RPS will still take applications for Welcome Week assistants

RPS is looking for student volunteers to serve as Welcome Week assistants who are eager to plan events and talk about the IU campus. Official registration to be a Welcome Week assistant ended March 19, however, RPS will accept applications until all positions are filled, but they are on a first-come, first-serve basis, said Melanie Payne, director of summer orientation and Welcome Week.

IU employees volunteer their time at local animal shelter

Few pet owners like cleaning out their animal’s litter box. But IU employee Marne Potter willingly cleans dozens of cages every week. Potter shows up at the Bloomington Animal Shelter at 8:30 a.m. every Saturday and changes a whole kennel’s worth of litter boxes.
