Boy shot by police is Bloomington North student

Police shot a 16-year-old male at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday outside the downtown Bloomington Transit terminal at the corner of 4th and Washington streets after police say he threatened officers with a knife.

Witnesses say a man was shot by police officers at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday outside the downtown Bloomington Transit terminal.A spokesman for the Bloomington Police Department declined comment late Wednesday afternoon.

McRobbie announces $4.9 million in budget reductions

All IU vice presidents, chancellors and deans at all IU campuses are being asked to reduce their operating budgets by at least $4.9 million for the remainder of the fiscal year, according to an IU press release.

Daniels releases new budget

Gov. Mitch Daniels introduced his new budget plan for Indiana during the Indianapolis Rotary Club luncheon Tuesday. Daniels took office as governor in 2005 and has since worked to balance the state budget.

IU women's basketball wins 9th consecutive game

The IU women’s basketball team has started conference play in the Big Ten making a statement – they want to be on the map and recognized for their play. After the Hoosiers 76-54 victory at home against last year’s co-Big Ten Champions the Iowa Hawkeyes it is going to be hard for anyone to ignore the team.

Hoosiers battle Iowa in search of 9th consecutive victory

The IU women’s basketball team will open the New Year by taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes at 4 p.m. today in Assembly Hall. Indiana (9-2, 2-0) could tie their longest winning streak since the 1998-99 season with a win today. Also in reach are other milestones for the Hoosiers.

Firefighters extinguish fire at Wildermuth Center

Crews are still investigating the cause of a fire which destroyed about half an acre of the Ora L. Wildermuth Center roof on Wednesday. A fire on the southwest side of the Ora L. Wildermuth Center is estimated to have caused about $100,000 to $500,000 worth of damage, said IU Police Department Capt. Jerry Minger.

Annual program offers free taxi rides during New Years celebrations

Thanks to an annual program, Monroe County residents can save money and not worry this New Year’s Eve by calling Yellow Cab for free taxi rides. These free rides within Monroe County will be available from 9 p.m. Dec. 31 through 4 a.m. Jan. 1, said Joy Heller of Bloomington Hospital Community Health Education, in an email.

3 freshmen IU football players named in probable cause affidavit

Three IU football players were named in a probable cause affidavit stemming from a robbery Dec. 17, resulting in IU freshman cornerback Cortez Smith's arrest. Freshman IU football players Dennis Zeigler, Darius Johnson and Jarrell Drane were all named in the probable cause affidavit filed Dec. 19.

In their first five minutes, these new members of the IU men’s basketball team looked like their bygone brethren, putting the hatchet to a lesser opponent with Christmas 72 hours away. Any resemblance thereafter was purely coincidental.
