Dennison wins Indiana Women's Amateur title IU senior All-American Karen Dennison won the 80th Indiana Women's Amateur Golf tournament at Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis. The LPGA Giant Eagle Classic participant finished with a 3-over-par 215, which placed her at five shots ahead of her nearest competitor. Dennison birdied on each of the fifth, sixth and 14th holes but bogeyed on three holes.

Kerr cites DiNardo as reason for leaving IU

An integral part of IU's football program recently decided to transfer to another Big Ten school. John Kerr, a sophomore linebacker, plans to attend Ohio State and join the Buckeye football program.

NASCAR comes to Indiana

Korey Stringer's widow plans to sue

MINNEAPOLIS -- An attorney for Korey Stringer's widow said she will sue the NFL on Monday, alleging that the league's policies led to Stringer's heat stroke death during Minnesota Vikings training camp in 2001. Stan Chesley said Kelci Stringer's suit would also name football helmet maker Riddell Sports Group Inc., and some NFL medical advisers. He said the federal lawsuit would include a wrongful death claim on behalf of Stringer's widow and son, and a class action claim on behalf of all NFL players.

No ID yet of remains

WACO, Texas - Investigators collected evidence Sunday in a field where they found a decomposed body, not far from where they were searching for missing Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy. There was still no identification of the remains found Friday, and officials said the process could take several days.

Lance Armstrong wins fifth championship title

PARIS -- Sipping champagne to celebrate, Lance Armstrong won his hardest but sweetest Tour de France title Sunday, a record-tying fifth straight victory that places him alongside the greatest cyclists ever. The 31-year-old Texan and Spanish great Miguel Indurain are now the only two riders to win the sport's most grueling and prestigious race five times in a row, a record Armstrong plans to break next year.

Records broken at swim meet

The 2003 Speedo Champions Series featured 551 swimmers and 85 teams this weekend at the Student Recreational Sports Center. Olympic qualifying times were broken in the event by three different swimmers in four separate events. Nick Cenci, 20, and Alyssa Kiel, 16, broke the Olympic qualifying times in the men's 200-meter butterfly and the women's 400-meter individual medley, respectively.

Matt LoVecchio on preseason list for award

Entering his first season in a Hoosier uniform, junior Matt LoVecchio is going to have a lot of eyes watching him after his successful two-year stint at Notre Dame. Now there's another set watching him -- The Davey O'Brien Foundation. The foundation awards the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award to the top quarterback in the country, and LoVecchio has been listed as a preseason favorite for the award.

Crocker sets world record

BARCELONA, Spain -- Ian Crocker looked at the clock and thought there was a big mistake. No mistake. Crocker, not U.S. teammate Michael Phelps, set a world record Saturday in the 100-meter butterfly finals at the World Swimming Championships. When a startled Crocker saw his time, he shouted "what," gave a palms-up shrug of disbelief, then embraced Phelps across the lane ropes.

In an attempt to solidify its success in the future, IU has garnered a very talented recruiting class for 2004-05. The headliners of that class are D.J. White, a 6-foot-8-inch, 233-pound forward from Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Josh Smith, a 6-foot-9-inch power forward, who played at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., last season. White, who made his intentions clear while playing at the Nike All-America Camp in Indianapolis, is considered by many recruiting services to be one of the top 10 players in the class of 2004.

Hoosier holds her own

Lakers sign Malone, Payton to contracts
