A Bloomington man by the name of Jeremy Brightbill fronts the surprisingly versatile and able one-man band Panic Strikes a Chord.
"The Pledge" is Sean Penn's third directorial effort and his best film to date.
You has proved the impossible possible. There is such a thing as white, 1980s Motown. Blowing Up is a work of warm, melodic art. This seven-song EP, born in Bloomington, adds an air of sultry freshness to the local scene.
Write It Down is coming into the world with a celebration, and rightfully so. Tonight at the Cellar Lounge, 123 S. Walnut St., Mode St. is having a CD release party for the birth of its first professional album. These 10 songs are worth every candle on the cake.
Everyone's favorite elfish warrior is back. Link has battled the forces of evil, won the heart of a princess and now faces his greatest challenge ever: How to survive a game that has a plot frighteningly similar to a Bill Murray movie.
For most of "Thirteen Days," we see no one but men in suits trying to solve a seemingly unsolvable problem. Directed by Roger Donaldson, "Thirteen Days" finds intriguing drama in passionate debate, tricky politics and impossible decisions.
Fans of the "Great Expectations" soundtrack might have caught Fisher's brief but amazing performance of the song "Breakable." With her major label debut, Fisher proves she is more than a one-note samba. The album starts off with "Hello It's Me," a strong opener that is a mixture of Fiona Apple and Tori Amos. In the title track, Fisher sends her love a message in a bottle, begging for forgiveness. The result is a dark and truly lovely song about longing and love. Fisher asks her listener to feel with each of her songs, and the listener is mysteriously compelled to do so.
British music fans owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Manchester, England.
One of the strengths of Bloomington's local music scene is the sheer depth of styles represented. Indie rock often consists of two-chord punk or blind discipleship to the Beatles or Weezer or both. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but variety is the spice of life, and you are sure to find it here.
