Forum addresses terrorism

As U.S. troops raided Falluja Friday afternoon, IU students gathered at the Indiana Memorial Union to dissect terrorism and the war on terror. "I know it was a bit ambitious," said David Baker, forum co-coordinator and graduate student. "But I wanted to see what IU students had to say on these issues, whether they were apathetic or not."

Study: Admit fewer students

A new report that could mark a significant shift in Indiana's higher education recommends that IU and Purdue University enroll fewer undergraduate students and increase emphasis on graduate education and the number of graduate students on their main campuses to prepare for the state's economic future.

Student faces 6 counts of sexual battery

An IU student was charged with six counts of felony class B sexual battery Wednesday. Khalid Fahad Hejab was arrested on a charge of larceny Monday night and taken to Monroe County Jail, where he remained until Thursday.

Runners enter Regional meet with different priorities

Just five years ago, the IU men's cross country team only hoped they would qualify for the NCAA Championships. This Saturday, instead of taking a last-ditch chance at qualifying and hoping luck falls on the Hoosiers' side, they will run with confidence, knowing that the 10,000-meter race at Eastern Michigan University is just a formality.

U.S. battles militants in Fallujah

FALLUJAH, Iraq -- Insurgents tried to break through the U.S. cordon surrounding Fallujah on Thursday as American forces launched an offensive against concentrations of militants in the south of the city. Some 600 insurgents, 18 U.S. troops and five Iraqi soldiers have been killed in the four-day assault, the U.S. military said.

Hoosier quest for repeat titles starts today

Seven. Seven deadly sins, seven days in a week. Seven: the name stolen from George Costanza. Seven is also the number of games that lies between the IU men's soccer team and a successful defense of last year's NCAA Championship season. The Hoosiers will begin that defense at 11:30 a.m. today against Michigan State in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Overton ranked No. 1 golfer in nation by Golfstat IU senior golfer Jeff Overton sits atop the most recent Golfstat rankings following the Evansville native's performance this fall. This is not Overton's first time at the No. 1 ranking. Last season, Overton reached No. 1 during a year in which he was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Year.

Hoosiers take on Big Ten in singles tourney

Tennis, by nature, is a sport of the individual. Even when a team concept is at hand, success rides on the collection of singular efforts. The IU men's tennis team will test the strength of its individual parts this weekend as the Hoosiers close their fall season with the Big Ten Singles Championship at the Nielson Tennis Stadium at the University of Wisconsin.

One Last Time

One last hurrah. The 2004 class of Hoosier football players will suit up for the final time at Memorial Stadium Saturday against the 2-7 Penn State Nittany Lions. While 18 players will say goodbye to their home turf, all the players remain vigilant in their quest to beat Penn State despite the lack of a bowl bid. Senior safety Herana-Daze Jones said the team still has high expectations for Saturday's game, and he fully believes the Hoosiers can pull out a victory.

Former 'Times of India' editor speaks at IU

There is more to India than it just being a country to which jobs are outsourced. It is an example of a democracy that works in its truest sense. This was the message of Gautam Adhikari, former executive editor for The Times of India, a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and a consultant at the World Bank, who spoke Thursday evening in the Student Building.

N. Korea rights act passes

The North Korean Human Rights Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush Oct. 18 after months of lobbying by four IU student groups. The bill enables North Koreans to stay in the United States as refugees and includes a humanitarian aid package, as well as the appointment of a special envoy for North Korean human rights.
