Despite the fact that the majority of the state of Indiana remains under a fire ban due to extremely dry conditions candles in pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns will be permitted according to a press release issued by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. The press release did recommend that residents of Indiana consider using a flashlight or glow stick to light their pumpkins this year instead of the traditional candle. However, if using a candle they have suggested using a votive candle which is the safest type of candle.
