Two Hoosiers won Big Ten titles at the Big Ten Championships last weekend, but IU Coach Ron Helmer said he wanted more.
IU Track and Field will travel to Geneva, Ohio, to compete in the Big Ten Championships on Friday and Saturday. Many athletes on the team have had their eyes on the championship all year long.
IU has 35 freshmen on the roster, and throughout the season they’ve been improving. Although some still have a ways to go, IU Coach Ron Helmer said, many freshmen have made adjustments necessary to perform well at the collegiate level.
IU Track and Field competed in its final home meet of the indoor season on Friday in the Hoosier Hills Invitational. The team boasted many athletes setting season bests and personal records.
Junior Sydney Anderson approached the end of her leg of the women’s 4x400 meter relay Saturday, just slightly trailing Cincinnati’s team. She handed the baton off to sophomore Kendell Wiles almost simultaneously with Cincinnati’s.

When describing sophomore Daniel Kuhn’s recent streak of school records in one word, IU track and field Coach Ron Helmer showed the same calm yet confident demeanor his middle distance runner competes with.
On Friday and Saturday, IU track and field competed against the IU Relays, the second-to-last home indoor meet of the year. It was another solid weekend for both the men’s and women’s team at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
For the beginning of the season, IU women’s track and field has been trying to get into a groove. Last weekend at the Gladstein Invitational, the women took their biggest step forward yet. One of the keys to that turnaround is sophomore Kendell Wiles.

IU seems to have struck just the right balance between established veteran performers and up-and-comers. One of those rising stars is high jumper Paul Galas.
At last weekend’s dual meet against Tennessee, both the IU men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams had a star that shined particularly bright. Middle distance runner Daniel Kuhn and thrower Nakel McClinton were both already in the IU record books, but Saturday may have been a new high point in their careers.

IU track and field returned from winter break and got back on track at its dual meet against Tennessee on Saturday at Gladstein Fieldhouse. The IU men’s team dominated Tennessee with a score of 66-47, while the women’s team tied at 61.
As a senior on a team with 35 freshmen, sprinter Cornelius Strickland has a lot of roles for IU. None is more important, perhaps, than being a role model for those freshmen.
IU track and field will begin its season Friday with the Hoosier Open, where it will compete against Kentucky, Tennessee and Purdue, among other teams, at the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
IU men’s golf didn’t enter the fall season with particularly lofty goals. It didn’t expect to be winning every tournament, to lead the Big Ten or to top individual leaderboards.

IU men’s golf is entering its final tournament of the fall season this weekend as they travel to the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic in Maui, Hawaii. The team is looking to finish the season on a strong note, but they’re also making sure to enjoy the time they get in the Aloha State.
