Bloomington took a journey to Middle Earth with two dazzling “Lordt of the Rings” drag performances Saturday, Dec. 7 at the John Waldron Arts Center. Drag kings and queens took to the stage in Lord of the Rings inspired garb for Oriana Perón’s World of Fantasy premier show at the Waldron. There was an all-ages performance at 2 p.m. and an adult-only version at 8 p.m. Both were co-hosted by drag queen Oriana Perón and drag king Verna Vendetta.

For the fourth year, the Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington will host the Holiday Arts and Crafts Show this December. Housed in the Arts Alliance Center in College Mall between Foot Locker and Southern Style Boutique, the storefront displays art and holiday gifts for sale from local artists.

Local T-shirt shop badknees and Bloomington Farm Stop Collective transformed their small Kirkwood Avenue parking lot into a festive wonderland Saturday, complete with live music, art vendors and food trucks. The lot was bustling with Bloomington residents of all ages who enjoyed four live performances and 18 vendors selling items such as handmade jewelry and knitted eyeglass cases.

Traditional Arts Indiana honored Hoosier artists at its 2023-24 award ceremony Oct. 4 inside Maxwell Hall. Seven artists received the Indiana Heritage Fellowship Award for lifetime achievement in a traditional art form. Traditional art forms are forms of cultural expression that have been passed down over generations within a community.

The 31st annual Lotus World Music and Arts Festival Transformed the streets of downtown Bloomington into dynamic cultural crossroads Saturday. From Oct. 3-6, over 20 bands brought the sounds of Southern Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Appalachia to local venues, providing festivalgoers with a rich soundtrack of heritage and musical skill.
