Constellation Stage and Screen will debut a new musical June 13 at the John Waldron Arts Center in Bloomington. “The King’s Wife” centers on Catherine of Aragon, the first of British ruler Henry VIII’s six wives. Tickets can be found on Constellation’s website. The musical will run until June 29, with shows on Wednesdays, Thursdays and weekends.

The Myanmar Student Association, in partnership with the Union Board, Hamilton Lugar School Living-Learning Center and the ASEAN Studies Program, hosted their annual Water Festival on Saturday at the Indiana Memorial Union. The event commemorated the culture of Myanmar and brought together friends and family to celebrate the new year.

On Sept. 21, 2018, writer and linguistic enthusiast Ellen Jovin set out to answer grammar questions on the streets of New York City. She propped up a folding table near a busy subway stop outside her Manhattan apartment with a sign that boldly read “Grammar Table.” Within 30 seconds, a curious pedestrian approached the table, and the dialogues flowed endlessly ever since.

Bloomington Expressive Arts Training will host its 13th annual Spring Show April 21 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in Bloomington. The show will include 77 young singers and dancers. The show's theme this year is One Heart BEAT, framed around love and hearts.

The IU LGBTQ+ Alumni Association celebrated IU Day on Thursday at The Inkwell Bakery and Café with a coffee -happy hour. The event featured a drink bar, prize raffle and space for members of the LGBTQ+ community to mingle.

From improv to sketch to stand up, there are many opportunities for people looking to get into comedy in Bloomington. But for an IU student or Bloomington resident still testing the waters, getting on stage and trying to make people laugh can seem pretty daunting. This is where open mic events come in handy. Local comedians said these low stakes events are a great way for new talent to get into comedy.

The program featured five writers who read original prose followed by two open mic guests who shared short pieces with an audience of nearly 20 attendees.

When Ethan Williams went to do stand-up for the residents of Brookdale Bloomington, an assisted living facility in Bloomington, he expected to be out of his comfort zone. The 24-year-old YouTuber from Bedford, Indiana, is aware that he isn’t a professional comedian. Even with that, Williams couldn’t have guessed just how bad the stand-up performance would go.

As the dim lights of the Bridgwater Lounge began to brighten, audience members' eyes stayed transfixed to the makeshift stage at the front of the room. Each of the three performances of the night: a poet, a filmmaker and a women-led band highlighted different aspects of Black artistry.

It’s the third Saturday of the month. Jack Kilby arrives early to the McCalla School, where he works during the week as a gallery preparator in the University Collections. With him, he brings a crate or two full of vinyl records for people who may not have any, so they can still contribute and participate. The smell of coffee fills the room, a perk of attending the event, and he waits until 1 p.m. for his guests of “Record Show & Tell” to arrive.

If you’ve ever been interested in exploring the history of tattoos or designing one, the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art will host its next monthly Tattoo Design Workshop at 3 p.m. Feb. 11. The workshops are meant to give people a chance to use art to figure out what they feel is meaningful enough to turn into a permanent tattoo.
