The IU School of Education will waive unremittable fees, or a small percentage of tuition that many IU graduate students must pay, for their fellowship students and student academic appointments beginning the fall 2021 semester, Sarah Lubienski, the associate dean for graduate studies at the School of Education, said.

IU accused the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition of a trademark violation in an email last Wednesday, according to a press release from the Coalition. This comes after weeks of an ongoing fee strike by the organization meant to call attention to the cost of graduate worker fees, which range from $700 to $1,500 each semester.

Michael Martin, the previous director of the Black Film Center/Archive at IU and current editor-in-chief of Black Camera, wrote an open letter to IU Media School Dean James Shanahan. In it, he said the BFC/A had experienced a pattern of budget cuts, low retention of professional staff and a lack of support from the university. He also said Black Camera, a scholarly film journal, had also suffered from budget cuts.
