During his lunch, Macabee hangs out in the Veteran Support Services center and talks with other veterans. Members of every branch come to the VSS to talk to eachother about their military experiences and to feel more at home.
"It's weird, you know? going into these classrooms and being twice the age of some of these kids." Macabee described, "I hear them complaining about their problems and i just want to grab them by the shoulders and tell them 'listen, that doesn't matter, there are way bigger things to worry about'."
Macabee works at the Vetran Support Services office during his free time between classes. he hopes that he can help ease the stress on other veterans that finances and class scheduling can cause.
Macabee uses the VSS as a quiet place to study for his upcoming algebra exam. Since he is beginning his undergraduate degree with a family at home, macabee finds it difficult to focus on studying when he is not on campus.
Macabee's family was what motivated him to join the military. When he and his wife first met, they were both managers in the fast food industry. Following 9/11 and when they found out they were going to be having a baby, they decided that Macabee should enlist to help ensure a better future for their family.
Macabee's son Jaxon (9) has Asperger syndrome, wich causes a variety of abnormal behaviors. One of the side effects is that he is very selective of the food he eats. Macabee prepares cheese pizza bread, one of Jaxon's foavorite meals.
"In here we can talk about anything," Macabee said, "no ones going to judge us, no one is going to pick fights, it's a great place to go and just talk about whatever."

Macabee Griffin, 35, is starting his Freshman year at Indiana University after serving in the US Army for almost 10 years. Macabee was medically discharged earlier this year after being diagnosed with a conversion disorder, a form of post traumatic stress that causes him to convert extreme stress into physical tremors. Along with the stress of Combat memories and college classes Macabee also has the responsibilities of being a father to balance.
Macabee kisses his mother on the forehead at his son's, Jaxon, birthday party. The support that Macabee has had from his family has been monumental in his struggle to balance his busy life.
