University Chancellor Ken Gros Louis assists freshman Madalyn Warshawsky locate Sycamore Hall during the first day of classes on Monday afternoon near the Herman B Wells Statue. This was the first year that Gros Louis was asked to serve as an IU Guide by the Office of Orientation Programs. Gros Louis arrived on the IU campus in 1964 as a faculty member in the departments of English and Comparative Literature. After his retirement as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Bloomington Chancellor in 2001, Gros Louis was appointed Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Bloomington Chancellor in 2004 by former IU president Adam Herbert.
