Brett Lewis, a masters student in performance at the Jacobs School of Music and in his second semester at the instrument workshop, blows some dust off the shape of the violin as he trims down by sanding it precisely. The shape is made out walnut and is used, with blocks carved out of spruce, to keep the shape of the violin while he forms the ribs of the violin around it. Andrew Olanoff
