May 12The “Mama’s Day Vigil and Banner Drop for incarcerated survivors” was put on by Middle Way House and Re-entry Collective at New Leaf-New Life. People stood with signs for two hours across the street from Charlotte T. Zietlow Justice Center. During the event, people held up a sign that read, "Eighty percent of women in jail are moms. We support all moms!"

May 12The Granfalloon Outdoor Music Fest took place at Upland Brewing Company on May 11. Concertgoers stood for hours in the rain on Saturday to listen to the live music. Durand Jones & The Indications, Parquet Courts, and singer-songwriter Neko Case played at the event.

May 7People celebrated Democratic victories and recognized losses in the Bloomington municipal primary election Tuesday night at an event organized by Mayor John Hamilton's campaign and the Monroe County Democratic Party. Voting on election day was open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Candidates came to the watch party at the Dimension Mill around 6:30 p.m.

GALLERY: South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg officially enters 2020 presidential race
April 15South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg officially announced he is running for president of the United States on Sunday in his hometown. His announcement makes him the 18th Democrat to enter the 2020 race. “My name is Pete Buttigieg. They call me Mayor Pete," Buttigieg said. "I am a proud son of South Bend, Indiana, and I am running for president of the United States.” If elected, the 37 year old would be the youngest and first openly gay president.

April 14The 2019 Little 500 season ended with Teter Cycling winning the women's race and Cutters winning the men's race for the second year in a row.

April 13The Cutters won the 69th running of the men’s Little 500. It was the team’s second title in a row and its 14th overall, the most in Little 500 history. Editors note: Noble Guyon, Victor Grössling and Emily Abshire have worked for the Indiana Daily Student.
GALLERY: Teter finishes first in the 2019 Women's Little 500
April 13Teter Cycling finished first in the 32nd women's Little 500. Delta Gamma finished second and SKI finished third. It was a three-way race between Teter, SKI and Delta Gamma in the final 10 laps, but during the final lap, SKI fell back from the lead, leaving Delta Gamma and Teter one final sprint to decide the victor.

Students push for gun reform at March For Our Lives rally
March 3A crowd made up largely of students gathered on the steps of the Indiana Statehouse on March 2 in Indianapolis to push for gun reform in the state and around the country. Among the speakers were students who have survived school shootings.
