Daniel Higgs; The Bishop

Wednesday

The name's Higgs. Daniel Acrus Incus Ululat Higgs. And with a name like this, it's no wonder that this gangly, metaphysical legend can put out surrealist and albums with esoteric names such as "Atomic Yggdrasil Tarot." But Higgs is more than an icon with a penchant for Nordic mysticism; before dropping into his reclusive solo career, he provided the Johnny Rotten-esque vocals for the folk/punk band Lungfish. His voice, once punk and clipped, now possesses a surprisingly rich, vibrating timbre. Emerging from his isolation for the Bishop, the hermit will be toting stoic minimalism ("Beyond & Between"). It makes for the kind of thing that you hear in Sushi restaurants, but its smooth repetitious melodies and gentle percussion will lull you to nirvana.
