The Capital One Academic All-America(R) Division I football first team was announced on Thursday and IU junior safety Mark Murphy was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Murphy, an informatics major, has a 3.91 GPA.

He is the ninth IU player to receive the honor. Per a university release, Murphy will be named Academic All-Big Ten for the second straight year this month. In 2012, he received Indiana's Academic Excellence Award.

Murphy played in all 12 of IU's games and he was second on the team in tackles with 84. He had one interception and one forced fumble. In his career, he has 230 tackles and 144 solo stops.
