OMAHA, Neb. --- For the first time since May 26, IU players sported a look suited for a job interview at Tuesday's practice.

That was the last time the Hoosiers lost and were forced to shave by IU Coach Tracy Smith.

"That's our motto," sophomore catcher Kyle Schwarber said. "We were clean-shaven all year, then we put up a little agreement with (Smith) where if we keep winning, you gotta let us not shave."

IU's seven-game winning streak was snapped at the hands of Mississippi State on Monday, so the entire team showed up to practice freshly shaven.

"As long as we're winning, we can grow whatever we want, as long as we want," sophomore second basemen Chad Clark said. "I can't really grow much, but we've got a lot of guys who can. We shaved after last night right when we got back to the hotel. We've got a new streak going I guess."

Baseball players are notoriously superstitious, so it's not surprising the Hoosiers wouldn't want to shave during a winning streak.

Apparently, letting their facial hair grow out was done more as a fashion statement.

"We're just getting sick and tired of looking like baby faces out there," Schwarber said with a laugh.
