Nikita Kotlov scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute, freshman forward Femi Hollinger-Janzen scored in the 80th minute to assure Indiana's berth in the Sweet 16 for the fourth consecutive year.
Xavier attempted five more corner kicks than Indiana 9-4 deficit but it did not matter, as the Hoosiers scored twice in the final 10 minutes. Kotlov completed the hat trick in the 83rd minute, scoring off a pass from Jacob Bushue that rolled beyond the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Justin Marshall.
It was over when: Femi Hollinger-Janzen beat Marshall to give IU a 3-1 lead. Xavier attempted only one shot in the second half.
Game ball goes to: Kotlov. The North Central grad left no doubt, as he notched the Hoosiers' first hat trick of the season.
Stat of the game: 11-0-2. Xavier had been 11-0-2 in games where they attempted more corners than their opponents. The Hoosiers overcame that, and prevailed 4-1.
Turning point: Kotlov's shot in the 68th minute. The goal gave Indiana a lead they would not relinquish.
