Indiana University senior Jim Barbiere was selected to compete as part of a group of 39 swimmers on Team USA at the 2013 World University Games, USA Swimming announced today.

Competing as a member of the 4x200 freestyle relay, Barbiere earned the spot by placing fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.74 at last month's U.S. Open in Indianapolis.

The swimming portion of the Games will take place July 10-16, while the event will run from July 6-17.

The International Sports Federation (FISU) organized the World University Games in 1963 as a biannual, international multi-sport event showcasing university athletes.

The 2013 World University Games Team roster was decided based upon each swimmers' performance at the 2012 U.S. Open Championships. Athletes must be at least 17 years old and less than 28 years old on January 1, 2013 in order to participate on the team.
