On Tuesday, the Indiana University field hockey team received some good news. IU freshmen midfielder Sydney Supica was named Big Ten Freshmen Player of the Week.

During the opening weekend, Supica's defensive play stood out as the Hoosiers defeated Kent State and Vermont to start the season 2-0. She showed her endurance, playing in all 140 minutes in two games.

The award is Supica's first honor as a member of the Hoosiers. This is the second year in a row that an IU freshmen has won this weekly award.

The last freshmen to do so was redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Olson on Sept. 27,2011. The Hoosiers play Missouri State in their home opener this Friday at 4 p.m.
