After former coach Mike D'Antoni resigned from coaching the New York Knicks on Wednesday, former IU basketball player Mike Woodson took the reigns of the team in an interim role.

He joined the team in the summer of 2011 after previously coaching the Atlanta Hawks to a 206-286 record during his six seasons as head coach (2004-2010). As of Wednesday, the Knicks had a record of 18-24 and were riding a six-game losing streak.

Woodson played for the Hoosiers from 1976-1980, averaging 19.8 points per game. He joins the Detroit Pistons' Lawrence Frank, the Sacramento Kings' Keith Smart and the Washington Wizards' Randy Whittman as IU alums coaching in the NBA.
