Following in the footsteps of former IU soccer players Will Bruin and Rich Balchan, who were both selected in first round of the 2011 Major League Soccer draft, current seniors Chris Estridge, Tommy Meyer, and Alec Purdie have been invited to the 2012 adidas MLS Player Combine in January.
The Hoosier trio will be among 49 other NCAA men's college soccer players from 31 Division 1 schools invited to the combine being held in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Jan. 6-10.
All three players started all 22 games this season for the Hoosiers and were All-Big Ten selections. The three will have to wait until the draft on Jan. 12, 2012 to see if they will join the 33 other IU alumni who have been selected in the MLS draft since the league began in 1996.
Also on Wednesday, the Big Ten announced that 90 IU athletes were named to the 2011 Fall Academic All-Big Ten list, including 10 men's soccer players.
This players include sophomores Jacob Bushue, Dylan Lax, Harrison Petts, and Blake Wise and seniors Nick Blevins, Chris Haffner, Tyler McCarroll, Luis Soffner, Joe Tolen, and Tim Wylie.
To be named to the Academic All-Big Ten list, student athletes must be in at least their second academic year here at IU and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
