Junior Zac Nees was awarded today as Big Ten Diver of the Week for the first time in his career, only a few days after his first career diving sweep in the No. 14 IU's (4-2) double dual-meet victories against No. 21 Virginia and Penn State.
Nees, who won the 1- and 3-meter dives over the two day meet, was a key factor in the Hoosiers' victories over the two programs. Nees beat out Virginia's Briggy Imbriglia by 53 points in the 3-meter dive held on Friday, earning a career-high score of 403.60 points in the process. Meanwhile in Saturday's 1-meter dive, in which the Hoosiers went 1-2-3, Nees beat out sophomore Darian Schmidt by nearly 53 points to take the win.
After this weekend's performance, it is Nees' second consecutive meet with at least one victory, putting his win total this season to three. In the Nov. 4-5 meet against No. 1 Michigan and No. 2 Texas, Nees took the 1-meter diving title for his first career dual-meet victory, a career best score and the fourth-best in school history. It is also the second time this season that an IU men's diver has been awarded Big Ten Diver of the Week (Schmidt, Oct. 25).
