Through the first four weeks of the IU men's soccer team's season, a fourth member of the team, senior defender Tommy Meyer, has been named Big Ten Player of the Week.
The conference announced Monday that Meyer would be awarded for his defensive efforts this weekend where the Hoosiers moved to 5-0-2 after a 0-0 double overtime tie at No. 14 St. John's on Friday and a 2-0 victory at Rutgers on Sunday.
Meyer assisted in both goals in Sunday's victory. His first assist came from a long ball far away from the goal where he connected with sophomore Blake Wise, who scored the game-winning goal in the game's 40th minute. He then assisted sophomore A.J. Corrado after a throw into the penalty area.
Meyer joins redshirt junior goalkeeper Luis Soffner (Aug. 29) in being awarded for their defensive efforts this season. Freshman Eriq Zavaleta (Sept. 5) and reshirt senior Alec Purdie (Sept. 12) have also earned offensive honors this season.
