Pete Pihos, an All-American end for the Hoosiers in 1943 and 1945, died Tuesday after a battle with Alzheimers disease. He was 87.

Pihos was a third round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1945, but his career was delayed for two seasons while he served in the military. After debuting in 1947, though, Pihos went on to lead the NFL in receiving for three straight years from 1953-55. He finished with 373 catches for 6,519 yards and 61 touchdowns during a nine year pro career, all with the Eagles, that featured six Pro Bowl appearences.

The Eagles won NFL Championships with Pihos on the roster in 1948 and 1949.

The only Hoosier to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Pihos was also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
