With spring football now over for IU, you can let the speculation begin as to who will be the Hoosiers' starting quarterback in the fall.

Both Edward Wright-Baker and Dusty Kiel had their moments in Saturday's spring game, but neither quarterback was particularly impressive.

Still, though, quarterbacks coach Rod Smith said he knows which direction he's leaning, but said he wouldn't release it at this time.

Since I can, I am going to use this space to express my opinion on the matter.

I honestly think Smith and coach Kevin Wilson are leaning toward Kiel. The Columbus, Ind. native is more of a pro-style player, and that fits Wilson's offense better. Wright-Baker is a duel-threat quarterback, but I think Wilson is looking for a guy to air it out and not look to run.

Kiel threw 27 passes on Saturday to Wright-Baker's 10. Even though Kiel threw two interceptions, I feel like he has more upside than Wright-Baker. While I don't want to compare Kiel to Sam Bradford in any way, he is built like the former Oklahoma quarterback. If Wilson and Smith could turn Kiel into a poor man's version of Bradford, he should earn the starting job.

So that's my take. Feel free to weigh in and share your thoughts.

The only other interesting thing that happened at Memorial Stadium was Wilson taking a shot at some of his players and the former coaching staff.

When asked about freshmen linemen Ralston Evans and Cody Evers, Wilson said:

"I don't think they've been here long enough to know how to play soft yet," Wilson said. "They actually play hard. We're just rewarding those guys for playing hard."

You have to love Wilson's honesty. You would have never heard Bill Lynch say anything like that.
