UPDATE: IU coach Tom Crean said via Twitter that Maurice Creek will undergo surgery on his right patella Thursday.

Sophomore guard Maurice Creek will be out indefinitely after suffering a stress fracture on his right patella, IU coach Tom Crean said Monday on his weekly radio show.

The injury came with 2:02 remaining in IU's win Saturday against Michigan.

Creek took a long inbounds pass all the way to the basket. As he drove, he was fouled and came down hard holding his right knee.

Crean put Creek back in the game shortly and said afterward that it did not appear serious. After closer examination, the injury was worse than initially thought.

"You can't imagine how big a blow it is to him," Crean said. "It's a tough, tough situation and I hope everyone will think bout him and say a prayer for Mo and his family."

Creek missed much of last season after suffering a left knee injury last December against Bryant.

The Oxon Hill, Md. native has started 13 games this season and is averaging 8.3 points.
