Believe it or not, we do have a large and talented sports staff at the IDS. But if you read Thursday's paper, you'll think Geoff Miller is our do-it-everything beat reporter.

Geoff, our football beat reporter doubling as the baseball reporter while holding an outside job as an auto racing reporter (got that all in one breath?) wrote every story (well, two...but both decently long) in our sports section for Thursday. In fact, between his football beat position job at the IDS and his work for FanHouse, he's working on nine stories this week.

You'll see more of his stuff - previewing the football game against Western Kentucky - in Friday's paper. And in the Big Ten guide that comes out next week. So I just wanted to plug his exceptional work:

  • First, he caught up with the baseball team as it opens fall practice. Geoff talked to coach Smith about the NCAA's new bats rules and talked to Big Ten Player of the Year Alex Dickerson about his summer.
  • Then Geoff spent the weekend in Milwaukee for the unveiling of IndyCar's new schedule. He interviewed IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard about the ever-evolving series. When the phrase "This is Indiana" is used, it refers to IU basketball. But the state is also known for its auto racing, too. I think.
  • If you want to read Geoff's other stuff, check out his staff page on FanHouse.
  • Lastly, find him on Twitter here. He'll be heading to Bowling Green, Ky. with fellow IDS football writers Justin Albers and Connor O'Gara to cover the Western Kentucky game this week.

(Our other reporters did good work this week, too...but their work is mostly being channeled into our Big Ten preview edition which comes out next week. Had to throw in some shameless promotion for that project as well).
