The women's basketball team had a chance today to win their first conference games back to back all season. Unfortunately, Michigan had other things in mind.

IU caused Michigan to turn the ball over 15 times in the first half, and held them under 35% shooting from the floor. However, due to some adjustments by Michigan at halftime, the Wolverines were able to make a comeback, and defeat the Hoosiers 70-56.

Michigan took charge by starting the second half with a 17-2 run, and due to better ball control, were able to easily push by an Indiana team that defeated them just over a week ago.

Here is a quick look at the top scorers for both teams:

Michigan

  1. Veronica Hicks, 24 points
  2. Carmen Reynolds, 16 points
  3. Dayeesha Hollins, 15 points

Indiana

  1. Jori Davis, 23 points
  2. Jamie Braun, 11 points
  3. Hope Elam, 8 points

Freshman guard Jenny Ryan also pulled down 11 rebounds for Michigan, a high for both teams.

Junior guard Veronica Hicks had this to say about the Wolverines finally breaking through and continuing to win:

"We really, really did feel into those games, but those games, there in the past. This game doesn't mean anything from this moment forward, other than it's helpful for our record. But we have a bigger goal in mind. So now our thoughts are really on Illinois, and that's something we are going to focus on, because we know how quickly it can all turn back around."

And just to update you all on Jamie Braun's all-time record status:

  • moved into 9th place in scoring
  • 1 assist from 6th place
  • 4 steals away from 5th place

The Hoosiers next take on Wisconsin at Assembly Hall on Thursday night.
