When it comes to years to forget, Hoosier followers would be hard pressed to find a rougher patch of 365 days than 2009. The last game of the decade, however, showed signs of better days ahead in Bloomington.

In a tough, grind-it-out type of game, the Hoosiers (7-6, 1-0) prevailed past Michigan (6-6, 0-1) 71-65 in Assembly Hall. Sophomore guard Verdell Jones led the Hoosier effort with 20 points, while freshman forward Christian Watford chipped in 19 points. Senior guard Devan Dumes scored 11 off the bench.

Although the Hoosiers shot poorly from the free throw line overall (69 percent), a 6/6 effort from Jones and freshman guard Jordan Hulls in the game's final minutes from the charity stripe sealed a Hoosier victory.
