The IU volleyball team concluded its final weekend of the season by breaking school records and sweeping Iowa Saturday.
Sophomore libero Caitlin Cox posted 16 digs to increase her season total to 488, the most ever by an IU player in a single season, as the Hoosiers (17-17, 6-14) ended their up-and-down year by dominating the Hawkeyes (13-20, 5-15) by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-20.
"It feels nice," Cox said of breaking the record previously held by Juli Pierce (481 digs in 2007). "I kind of had an idea that I was close, but I wasn't sure if I would make it this season or not. Now this gives me something to shoot for next year, to break my record this year."
Junior middle blocker Ashley Benson also secured her spot in the IU record books for at least the length of the offseason, maintaining her status as the school's all-time leader in hitting efficiency at a .361 clip.
Freshman outside hitter Jordan Haverly led IU's offensive attack with 19 kills, and Benson added the second-most with 12.
Benson, Cox and freshmen Whitney Granado and Laura Matula posted a service ace each.
Iowa led 4-3 at the beginning of the first set. That was the last time the Hawkeyes would be out in front.
In perhaps the Hoosiers' most dominant showing of the season, they kept Iowa trailing after that point to end the season on a high note. The previous day, IU beat Wisconsin in Madison in a five-set affair.
