IU field hockey falls to No. 8 Michigan State 6-2 in a hard fought battle in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers record moves to 7-5 because of the loss, with a 1-2 conference record.

Senior midfielder Jeamie Deacon scored the first two goals for the Spartans in the first 18 minutes.

At the 26th minute, junior forward Jantine Steinmetz scored off a fastbreak.

Before the half ended, the Spartans scored another goal just three minutes late by freshman forward Manouk Vernij off a corner.

By halftime the Spartans were up 4-0.

Hoosiers scored the next two goals from senior forward Haley Funk and junior forward Katie Griswold at the 45th and 48th minutes.

The Spartans didn't let the Hoosiers score another goal, but they scored two more goals from Floor Rijpma and Deacon at the 59th and 65th minutes.

IU plays tomorrow against the Central Michigan Chippewas (3-7) at 1 p.m.
