SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The No. 12 IU Hoosiers walked away with its first win of the season this evening against New Mexico with a 3-2 decision.
Will Bruin, Alex Purdie and Lee Hagedorn scored on the evening. Hagedorn even picked up an assist.
Both teams, who are competing in the Mike Berticelli tournament, were slow to start, with a combined five shots taken in the first half.
The Hoosier defense was not the one seen from the past weekend's play.
"We just got to be smarter defensively," Hagedorn said. "We made a couple dumb mistakes. A dumb mistake led to another dumb mistake. It was a couple things, just not just one person."
However, goalie Luis Soffner had more action in the box then his past two starts, with three saves in the first and four in the second.
"Overall, I think everyone from the coaches to the players were a little disappointed in how we played today," he said. "We were happy we ended up getting a win and we fought hard when we got down, but we definitely let a couple goals go in that shouldn't have gone in."
IU takes on Seattle University on Sunday.
