Know the Knoblauch name? You will soon.

Before becoming one of Bellaire High School's (Houston, Texas) greatest baseball coaches, Ray Knoblauch was a professional pitcher for 10 years, going 84-81.

His brother, Eddie, spent 16 years in professional baseball, as well.

And Ray's son Chuck appeared in the World Series five times.

So it comes as no surprise that Ray's grandson, Trace, lives and breathes baseball.

Trace Knoblauch, in his third year on varsity as a senior at Bellaire High School in Houston, Tex., signed his National Letter of Intent to join the IU family this fall.

The only player from his district to be selected for the Texas High School Baseball Coaches association All-Star team, Knoblauch moves between first base and the outfield. A product from being near baseball all his life.

"Baseball has just been in my family forever," Trace said.

Currently hitting .450, he has knocked in 30 RBI, while going yard five times this season. He is also the captain of the Cardinals, ranked-No.2 nationally by Baseball America. Trace and his Bellaire teammates are 20-1-1 in their spring season.

A switch-hitter, Trace earned All-District and All-State accolades for his performance last season. IU coach Tracy Smith knows the Knoblauch name will help the Hoosiers.

"The Knobluach family ... I didn't understand the extent of baseball in their family until the recruitment process started," Smith said. "I know he did well in high school, but can't wait to see his changes over the next three or four years in our program"
