IU coach Tracy Smith's team this week endured their worst loss of the season against Louisville, but responded with a powerful win over Valparaiso.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Hoosiers went to Jim Patterson Stadium to take on the Cardinals. Out of the 18 IU players to enter the lineup, only five recorded hits. Freshman pitcher Drew Leininger gave up nine runs on nine hits in three and a third innings and moved to 0-2 on the season.

But after the lopsided loss, the Hoosiers responded with a victory over Valparaiso. Last week's Big Ten Player of the Week, freshman designated hitter Alex Dickerson, came through for the Hooseirs in the 7th inning with his 10th home run of the season. Junior second baseman Tyler Rogers added three hits and scored two runs.

Sophomore pitcher Matt Carr picked up his first win of the season.

The Hoosiers' next test is an in-conference battle with Iowa in Iowa City beginning Friday afternoon. Freshman Blake Monar, junior Eric Arnett and junior Matt Bashore (in that order) will pitch in the three-game road trip against the Hawkeyes.
