Tom Crean and his coaching staff did not make a single phone call to recruits for one week back in December. The reason? Crean "simply made a mistake," by unintentionally making an extra phone call to IU recruit Bawa Muniru in October.

In late October, Crean placed a pair of calls to the 6-foot-11 center on a Sunday and Wednesday. IU assistant coach Roshown McLeod then left a voice mail for Muniru that Saturday, which put the Hoosiers staff one call over the limit set by the NCAA. Crean thought the first call had counted towards the previous week.

The athletics department detected the NCAA violation and IU responded by self-inflicting the aforementioned one week without phone calls penalty back in December.
