IU gained its second win of the season Sunday, defeating the University of South Florida, 9-7.
The game was a stalemate heading into the fifth inning. Both teams got their offenses rolling in the inning. IU led 5-4 heading into the sixth inning, where the win was cemented by a four-run push. Designated hitter Alex Dickerson and shortstop Jake Dunning led the surge. They collectively produced 2 hits and 3 RBI in the run, which pushed IU to a 9-4 lead.
Dickerson also homered to right center field in the fifth inning, sending catcher Josh Phegley home and collecting 2 RBI.
Pitcher Blake Monar pitched well, allowing only 6 hits and 3 earned runs in 5 innings. Monar also struck out six batters.
