... or don't go to the IU basketball games either of those nights. Chances are, if you have a professor new to IU, they'll be there.

The latest IU Athletics promotion invites faculty and staff new to IU this year to either the Feb. 19 home game against Wisconsin or the Feb. 25 home game against Northwestern. Not sure how many faculty readers we have here at the Basketblog, but seeing as the odds are likely we have a few, I dedicate this announcement to them. Or something.

Anyway, make your decisions wisely, students, lest ye be forced to run into your professor at Assembly Hall and have to explain your absence that day while cleaning off the Diet Coke you spilled all over them.

Dear New IU Faculty/Staff Member:

Please let me take this opportunity to welcome you to Indiana University! Having very recently started at IU myself, I'd like to give you an opportunity to experience the excitement of an IU men's basketball game at Assembly Hall. Accordingly, we would like for you and a guest to join us at one of the following IU home games in the month of February:

Thursday , February 19 Wisconsin 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25 Northwestern 6:30 p.m.

Under Coach Tom Crean's leadership, our program has moved forward diligently through a very difficult period of change and transition this season. Thanks to Coach Crean's guidance and expertise, along with the strong backing of our loyal fans, Indiana will soon return to its traditional level of excellence in the Big Ten Conference and nationally. The crowd support at our home games in Assembly Hall since the New Year has been awesome and we look forward to more of the same during the remainder of the season.

If you have watched our team play this season, you know that our players and coaches give their all each and every time they take the floor. We hope you accept this opportunity to come to Assembly Hall to cheer for them with all of your energy as well. Passionate players and fans are what make Indiana basketball so special.

To accept this offer, please reply to this email by Friday, February 13th at 12 noon along with your home mailing address and telephone number. Once you have notified us of your game selection, we will send two (2) reserved tickets to you promptly. Please know that in compliance with Internal Revenue Service and university policy, the value of these complimentary tickets will be reported as taxable income.
