In the midst of the NCAA soccer tournament, IU coach Mike Freitag laned a verbal from high school junior Harrison Petts, who is ranked as the No. 5 junior prospect by TopDrawerSoccer.com. I talked to Harrison's father, Dan, earlier this evening on the phone and he told me Harrison's intentions to suit up for the Hoosiers.

Petts gave his pledge to Freitag after the Zionsville (IN) native was recruited by many of the top programs in the nation. Picking up another blue chip recruit doesn't seem like a huge deal for IU (as the team has top-ranked recruiting classes each year), but Petts' ability to score is what makes this a big-time get for Freitag.

For full disclosure, I am friends with the Petts family and have known Harrison for many years. That being said, he is probably the best pure scorer I've seen at a prep level as a player (I played competitive club soccer from 3rd grade until college) or fan. I think he would best be utilized as an attacking midfielder, but Petts can certainly play up top as well.

I will try to get more on this story (and possibly talk to Harrison about his plans) soon. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
