Reporters had the chance to talk one-on-one with players and assistant coaches Wednesday. Be sure to check out our coverage in Thursday's paper or on idsnews.com. For a full transcript of Tom Crean's press conference check out iuhoosiers.

Here are a few things other things we learned at media day:

* Tom Crean talked about the possibility of adding a walk-on from Bill Lynch's team. At first Crean mentioned the idea in passing, but when asked about it specifically Crean said it was "wishful thinking."

He said he'd brought it up with Lynch but hadn't any serious discussions about the possibility.

"I'm sure there are some guys over there that think they are pretty good basketball players, so we'll see. Bill knows I would have an interest in that down the road, but their season right now comes first, second and third." Crean said he wouldn't likely look into it until January.

* In addition to football players, Crean said he held a workout Tuesday night trying out "29-30" students. He said he couldn't just open the door to anyone who wants to try out and that they have to deal with physicals, forms and "legality." Crean added he'd like to add one or two more walk-ons and hoped to finalize things by the end of the month.

* A new Hoosier made his debut at media day, Steven Gambles. A 6-foot-4 220-pound junior from Indianapolis (North Central), Gambles said he was officially added to the team last week but has been working out with the Hoosiers since the summer. Several players had good things to say about Gambles during media day and Gambles said workouts had been going well.

Gambles played for Lambuth University during 2006-2007 and averaged 3.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 11 games. Gambles spent his freshman year redshirtting at IUPUI.

At North Central, Gambles averaged 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds as a senior.

* Tom Pritchard said weighed 245 pounds and was hoping to drop five more before the season. He said he's enjoyed practicing against assistant coach Roshown McLeod in practice adding "he doesn't go 100 percent but he definitely does give us some game."

* Malik Story and Nick Williams have a lot of fans. So many, in fact, that Story said they had to remove the nameplate from their door room. Story said that they leave their door open most of the time though and talk with people on their floor.

"We're just like everyone else, we just play basketball."

* For the record, Devan Dumes' nickname is "Debo." Debo, a junior, said that he's stepped into a leadership role despite feeling like a new guy.

"Coach Crean said he's never had a junior who wasn't a leader and played, so it just makes perfect sense to me"
